This Christmas has been a rather interesting one. I received all of the parts I needed to build a OSx86 machine. I also received a few other random things like Think Geek and Jinx shirts, etc. I also received a decent amount of money from different family members / family friends. So overall on the present side of things I made out pretty well.
If your into specifics, here is all of the gifts that I found under the tree:
- GIGABYTE GA-8I865GVME Motherboard
- Intel Celeron D 325 Processor
- pqi POWER Series 512MB DDR Memory
- TRENDnet TK-205i KVM Switch
- Think Geek GEEK Hooded Sweatshirt
- Jinx “I am Your Webmaster” T-shirt
Now as you can see a major part of the gifts I received make up the OSx86 box I’ve been building. I’ve spent the last two days working on it and things have not gone as easy as expected. The actually building of the computer was a breeze, it only took me 45 minutes, it’s just the software side of install OSX that has been a problem.
I’ve been able to kind of install the system correctly, but things just aren’t working right. While running the installation, everything works as intended, and no errors are present; however, once the installation is supposed to finish and reboot, the reboot never takes place. Instead the system hangs indefinitely. So I manually reboot the system and the system gets up to the point where the final part of the installation is about to take place, but never goes any further. It just hangs.
The good news is once I get past this minor problem the system will work very nicely. Everything I have is supported in OSX (even QE/CI), which is something most OSx86 install don’t have.
I’ll keep you updated on what’s occurs. Right now I plan on pulling an all-nighter until I get OSX installed. I have a ton of ideas on how to get past this problem, just not enough time to try them all. So I’m not at a dead end at all. Just a little more time and I’ll have best [consumer] OS on the planet.
