Today Microsoft released the new public Internet Explorer 7 beta. Since I’m a web designer, I thought I would give this new version a try. Internet Explorer 7 is suppose to fix some minor web annoyances such as PNG transparency, so I thought I should check that out and see how it effects my websites. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.
My attempts to install IE7 have failed miserably. Every time I install, about halfway through the installation I get a nice little error message telling me that msfeeds.dll has failed to load. The installation then pretends to work and eventually fails, telling me to check my system directory for a log with more information. I’ve checked the system directory and the only thing in there is one IE7 log. The log isn’t even that informative; it only tells me it failed and the rest of the installation was skipped. Like I didn’t know that already.
So it looks like I won’t be reviewing Internet Explorer 7 anytime soon. To Microsoft’s benefit, this is still beta software, and I haven’t heard of anyone else having issues, so I must just be an exception. I just hope the next beta version will install; I’m not in the mood to reformat my system just for IE7.

Weird. For me, the install took quite a long time. Around 45% it stopped. But the hard drive was still making noises, just took a long time, then it jumped to like 58% and quickly finished. By the way, how did you get passed the WGA?
Weird, 45% is where is fails for me every time. Regarding the WGA, my key validates, so there’s no problem with that.
uninstall photoshop
zedth,
wtf would that accomplish? i have photoshop and ie7 installed.
I’m seeing a lot of hits coming into my site for the search msfeeds.dll. When I performed that search initially after encountering the error there were no results. It appears that there must be other people out there having the same problem as me. Hopefully, someone will eventually inform me of how they got it to work, or another site will turn up on the search with the answer.
Just incase anyone stops buy here looking for the solution, I finally got Internet Explorer 7 to install. What zedth might have actually worked, because the solution dealt with a corrupt image registry key. Here the steps I followed to fix it as found on Microsoft’s newsgroups:
Now that I have IE7 installed, I’ll give my full impressions tomorrow on a brand new post.
I couldn’t get it to install either. The package itself is a zipped executable so you can view the files with winzip. Inside the package you will find the msfeeds.dll file which you can then extract to windows\system32.
I tried the registry fix above but that didn’t work out for me. Permissions were already set correctly. I found a newsgroup that suggested one take a look at the updspapi.log in the windows directory. In my log I found this #E008 Setting registry value HKCR\.application\bootstrap
#E033 Error 5: Access is denied. I setup up the Admin permissions to full control in the registry key and I was able to install successfully.
i installed the fully cracked version when it was first out and had no problems at all..no wga checks as well
Got to love this IE 7! I installed it, it told me to reboot, then when I did reboot, it wasn’t anywhere to be found. Not one trace of it. Guess it saved me from the pain of wishing I hadn’t!
Even with a trusted family member working on the “Campus” was amazed…
Nope, I will stick with the “others”…

[...] Now that I finally got Internet Explorer 7 to install, I’m ready to give you my take on the browser. Since I haven’t had enough time to fully sit down with the new rendering engine, I won’t be commenting on that. My impressions will only be coming from the interface, features, and how it affects my website. [...]
