A couple of hours ago there was a thunderstorm which came through and knocked out the power. I was without power for about an hour, which is fairly good considering the rest of Allentown is without power until later tonight. During this brief period of no electricity, I was able to manage by listening to my iPod and using my laptop. I was even able to get internet on my laptop since my router and DSL modem were plugged into a UPS. So I guess I wasn’t too bad off after all.
This incident got me thinking, what do others do when the power goes out? Do you fire up the redundant power system and act like nothing is wrong, or do you go back to the simple things like reading a book or catching up on housework? I know I can’t live without my gadgets, and when I’m without them it’s painful. I feel like there is nothing to do. Are you like that or are you the kind of person who can find something do whether there is power or not?

Our power at work goes out every so often, as we’re out in the sticks. I usually take the time to clear my desk, catch up with friends around the office and maybe play some football outside.
How ironic is this. Minutes after I post this entry the power went out at my host due to a generator blowing up.
We recently had major power outages here in St. Louis and some people have been out for 9 days. Time to take a nap.
CHECKERS!!! WOOT
lol, although i thought i would have been reduced to reading, wait, no light!
It was actually very light out. If you would have just opened up some window shades you could have read easily.
i dont even notice when it does happen since my pc, monitor, router, modem is all plugged into a 1500 VA BackUPS. I should get a diesel generator so I can stay on longer.
Anyone wanna play dungeons and dragons?
umm no
Yes.
And Ron, welcome to my world. Power outages are all we have hear in the third-world. I am on inverter back-up 3-6 hours everyday.
