I don’t know if you’ve been following the news this past year, but Sony’s been in a lot of trouble. It started with the rootkit scandal late last year and has escalated from there. The PS3 was delayed, Dual-Shock was removed from the PS3 controller, the Wii controller was copied, the Cell processor was revealed to have extremely low yields, PS3’s announced price was expensive, Bluray’s DRM caused a delay in Bluray’s release, and Sony was caught faking a Bluray presentation. And now, Sony has yet another issue on their hand: exploding batteries.
This past week we saw two major recalls. First, Dell recalled over four million batteries, then later in the week Apple recalled just over a million batteries. All of these recalled batteries were none other than Sony batteries.
Things aren’t looking up for Sony either. They apparently have yet to start manufacturing the PS3, and consumer adaption to Bluray has been very slow. Sony is just falling apart.
So, when is enough, enough? How much more can we take before Sony is no longer a trusted name? I know I haven’t been able to trust Sony since the rootkit issue; everything else was just icing on the cake. I doubt Sony is ever going to crumble, but they need to get their act together quickly before Sony’s name and consumer trust is destroyed.

Sony has been sucky for a while now. Many of their products are overpriced because you are buying their name. Look what happened to their aftermarket radios for automobiles. 10 years ago they were top notch, now they are a joke.
OoO, the Sony Snowball effect of negative press. I still have some high hopes for the PS3. I’m looking forward to the new Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid games. I admit, they messed up bigtime. But, Nick says were going 50/50 on a PS3. lol.
Either way, I am getting a REVOLUTION! Calling it Wii is just dumb.
I agree with Wayland here. People do just buy Sony’s name and I admit I did too. But looking at their products lately, they just don’t impress me. Though back then buying a Sony product was more than just a name. Now Sony stopped caring, they make shitty products, and they assume people will just buy it because of the name alone. They are wrong–and I hope Sony does get their act together. But until then, for home electronics, there are a lot of good brands out there!
Sony was doomed the second M$ announced the Xbox…
I am rather surprised that Xbox did so well. I’ve always liked the Playstation. I never owned one, but loved playing it with friend whom did own one. I really thought that PS3 would destroy 360–and I really thought Bluray would be the way to go. But I think Sony has been going down hill even before the rootkit fiasco personally.
The fact is Sony have been stealing Nintendo’s thunder for years. Rumble pack stolen from Nintendo, Analogue - stolen from Nintendo and now Motion Sensor stolen from guess who? Nintendo are the innovators and Microsoft are pushing the envelope on graphics and Xbox Live. What do Sony really have beyond market image?
