9rules Launches Search – I Launch Search Plugin

Early yesterday, 9rules launched a Web 2.0 search engine. The new search engine dubbed 9rules Search, searches through 9rules’ database of insanely great member content and displays relevant articles alongside results from Flickr and YouTube. If there are no articles to display from 9rules members, the search engine will pull results from Technorati. Sounds like the perfect search mashup to me.

To make partaking in this awe-inspiring search engine even easier, I decided 9rules Search needed a Firefox search plugin. Instead of waiting for someone else to do one, I got on the ball and made one myself. You can download the plugin at Mozilla’s search website. Now great content is only a quick search away.

This is cool, though it won’t work for me. I’m not sure why but it isn’t getting added to my list of engines.

Can you add search plugins for other sites?

Hmm, the link that I provided somehow doesn’t work. Try using this URL: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html?name=9rules+search&category=all&country=all&language=all&submitform=Search&sherlock=yes&opensearch=yes

Just so you know, there was a caching issue with the server. I made a minor change to the plugin shortly after uploading it and the site was trying to serve up the old version. The cache has since refreshed and everything should be working now.

Awesome plug-in, I have Technorati, Flickr, Yahoo, MSN, Google and now 9rules. Is there one for alexa as well?

Thanks. An Alexa one is available here:

[...] While we’re on the topic of 9Rules, I’ve been discovering a ton of spectacular blogs recently. Not surprisingly, the Business, Anime, and Writing categories have caught the bulk of my attention. If you’re looking for good reading, for the love of all that is bloggy, check out 9Rules. Also, Firefox users may be interested in the 9Rules Search plug-in available, which adds the 9Rules search to the Firefox search options. I’ve been using it since I discovered it a couple days back and it keeps leading me to amazing sites I would have otherwise ignored. [...]
