I don’t know about you, but this has been one of those weeks that make you feel good to be a Mac user. Between the updated Core Duo 2 MacBook Pro, the voting stage of MyDreamApp coming to an end, and Disco, this week has been amazing for Mac users. Tonight there is even more good news.
Apple has released a new MacBook SMC firmware update. The release notes mention a fix for the Random Shut Down issue, and is recommended for everyone, including MacBooks which have been serviced with the official RSD fix. Early reports indicate that the firmware update enables a second temperature sensor, so when the first one goes haywire, your MacBook shouldn’t shut off. Let’s hope this keeps the RSDs away for the people like me who have yet to have an issue.
In other news, Mac Firefox users will want to download Neil Lee’s optimized Firefox 2.0 builds. Neil has an optimized build for every recent OS X configuration; G4, G5, Intel, it’s all there. As a bonus, the optimized builds come with either the Firefoxy widgets or Aqua widgets. Now Firefox can be quick and Mac-like too!
