I’m Now a Next Generation Gamer

Xbox 360As Sony once said, the next generation of gaming doesn’t begin until Sony says it does. Now that the PS3 is out, I think we can all agree the next generation of gaming is here. So, last week I decided it was about time to “jump in” to the next generation. No, I didn’t spent countless hours waiting for a PS3 or a Wii; I casually walked into EB Games and picked up myself an Xbox 360 (alright, to be honest I ordered it on Newegg, but that doesn’t have the same effect).

After spending all of Thanksgiving break immersed in the system, I can say the 360 is the best console ever. First of all, the profile system is great. My brother and I share the system, and now we have a way to keep our saves separate. Second, the achievement system is pure genius. Before the 360, I would never fully complete a game. Now that I can earn achievements for playing different parts of game, I can’t put the games down. Third, the marketplace is of great value to me. Being able to download game demos and other content keeps me busy in between games. Finally, the whole Dashboard interface is well designed. Pulling up a blade in the midst of any game and having the ability to change music or chat with your friends is something I wish I had earlier.

Don’t forget about the most important part, the games. Gears of War, Tony Hawk’s Project 8, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Call of Duty 3, etc. These are all games which are just simply amazing on the 360. Right now, I don’t see anything I like on the PS3 or Wii. Sure the PS3 may be a powerhouse Bluray player, and the Wii might have the most unique experience ever, but the systems don’t have any games which interest me.

Anyway, I’m pleased with my 360 purchase. The system is a blast to play, and it’s only going to get better as the years go by. I can’t picture myself with any other system.

With that said, I think I’m going to go have a ball playing some 360. My gamertag is cavemonkey50 if anyone wants to send me an invite. Just let me know who you are in the comments or something.

Congratulations on your new toy. I’m really considering getting a new console myself (I gave up some years ago and still have a PS1 lying around somewhere). What struck me, though, were the prices. In all these months of reading about the advent of the new PS3 and the Wii, I never thought to check what they actually cost. Seems like you made the best decision in that department as well then. Anyway, I guess what I wanted to say was in fact that I’m considering taking a look at the Xbox now - because of your little review. Yeah, that was it really ;-) Cheers!

Give the PS3 time. These are the exact things people said about the XBox when it faced off against the year old PS2.

Having said that, I’m almost a completely converted Xbox fan from a die hard PS fan. I never liked Nintendo.

I agree with you, the PS3 will eventually get its own set of gaming gems. However, from my experience with the Xbox, I like the 360’s set of games more. It’s one of those things it depends on what you like.

I would consider myself to be a casual gamer. First person shooters often make me nauseous to the point where I vomit. The Playstation never interested me to begin with. As a kid I loved the NES and Sega Genesis. Xbox was neat and the graphics were incredible it just didn’t interest me enough to buy one.

Though I would like to see a PS3 in action just to see it, there aren’t that many games for it I foresee myself getting. Xbox 360 is a nice system, one of my friends has one for a while already. Though I also can not see myself getting one.

I am a Nintendo fan, but I wouldn’t say I am a fanboy. I never even owned the original gameboy, though how much I wanted one. I did eventually get a GBA then quickly sold it on Ebay when the SP came out. When I saw the DS i thought it was dumb. But now there are games on it that do interest me, but I am not sure if buying a DS is worth it just for a few games. Though I did get a gamecube only for zelda because i felt in love with the cell shading.

Eventually I did sell my gameboy and all of its games, and my cube is still sitting on my tv stand. As for the Wii, at first I thought it was dumb and wasn’t going to get it. Then as things progressed and seeing their press conference with Reggie, he made things so different i was psyched. i do want it and i will get it. i wasnt dumb enough to wait in line all day in freezing weather just to get one. i’ll wait, and i can’t wait to own it. it is so much fun. the graphics are good enough for, and the game play is so hard to describe. it is really a lot of fun, that even my parents would play with me.

I’ve got an XBOX 360 which I have not even come close to fully utilizing. I’ve had the unit since April, and still haven’t set up my own profile, much less gotten online or worked on achievements.

Having said that it is a fun gaming system for the games I’ve played (Halo 2, Oblivion, Criminal Minds (or Intent)?)

However, I also just got the Nintendo Wii, and I have to say it is definitely the MOST FUN video gaming system I have played. It is a total blast to have friends over and play some games of bowling or sets of tennis. The learning curve is so fast for anyone that it really makes it fun for everyone, regardless of previous gaming abilities.

I think Nintendo really hit a home run with this system. They just brought the simple FUN FACTOR back.

I have played some other games on the Wii — the marvel comics game, Zelda, Red Line or whatever — and to me the games are much harder and I don’t think I prefer it to a traditional controller. Some people might if they want the extra challenge, but it’s kind of annoying to have your hold field of vision change when you want to scratch your nose.

  1. [...] Now you might be wondering, didn’t I just purchase an Xbox 360? Well, yes, but I’ll also be moving out of the house in a little over a year. Most likely that 360 will stay here for my brother to enjoy, leaving me to purchase one of Microsoft’s updated 360s. [...]

  2. [...] Well, that lasted long. Tonight, my brother was ending a Halo 2 session when he decided it was time to play Tony Hawk’s Project 8. After ejecting the Halo 2 disc, I happened to pass by while he was inserting Project 8. As the disc slowly closed into drive, I heard a loud grinding noise. Almost as if the game was being run through a shredder. The loud noise was then followed by an unreadable disc error. [...]
