I’m Participating in Google’s Summer of Code 2007

I’m proud to announce that I have been selected for Google’s Summer of Code 2007. This summer instead of working the normal boring summer job, I’ll be adding podcasting support to WordPress. As you may know, I love WordPress and am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to such a wonderful open-source application.

If you have any ideas for podcasting support in WordPress, feel free to send me a message. Google’s Summer of Code does not actually begin until June, but I would love to hear your suggestions in the mean time.

    Congrats!

I think its important that podcasters can post multiple formats for each episode (mp3, ogg, aac, etc.). I think there are several CMS’s that fall flat on that.

An ajax interface and tagging system would certainly be nice.

Congrats! This is good news. I love WP, and there is always work to be done. Podcasting is something I’m sure a lot of people will use and value.

Thank you everyone for your support.

To answer a few questions, yes Smaran, I have officially been accepted.

Marvin, all of those features are high on my list. Here’s a few other things I hope to bring to WordPress’ podcasting support: separate feeds, iTunes configuration, uploading tool, in-post player for both audio and video podcasts, and scheduling of episodes (with prevention of downloading before release).

That’s great news! Give it your best shot. I’ve seen some really good stuff that’s come out of GSOC. MacLibre by my friend Pawel, for example.
