My favorite Mac torrent client, Xtorrent, has been updated to version 1.1 today. The new version brings individual file selection, file priorities, and multiple speed enhancements. Best of all, Xtorrent 1.1 is a free upgrade for previous purchasers.
I’ve been running the beta versions of Xtorrent 1.1, and I can say without a doubt this is the best Mac torrent client to date. Xtorrent is fast, makes it easy to find torrents, and even handles torrentcasts. Everything a torrent lover needs is in Xtorrent, making me wonder why I’ve been waiting for uTorrent for Mac.

Paying for a bittorrent client? I mean uTorrent’s free.
Yeah, I agree, paying for a bittorrent client is strange. However, I have yet to find a torrent client as slick as Xtorrent. Finding “stuff” used to take some time. With Xtorrent I simply fire off what I’m looking for and tabs open containing my search. It’s very fast and speeds up my workflow.
Transmission does the same thing (less the search) and there is no evidence to back up the claim the Xtorrent is “faster”.
I didn’t actually compare Xtorrent to Transmission, but if I would, I agree with you Transmission is faster. After all, Xtorrent is Transmission (via libtransmission) with a prettier interface.
I’ve used Tranmission and still prefer Xtorrent over it. Yes, the interface is the only difference, but to me the interface is worth the cost. Xtorrent may not be for everyone, so feel free to continue using your torrent client of choice.
Because xTorrent violates key specifications in the BitTorrent protocol and as a result, it’s banned on almost all respectable (private) trackers (along with Transmission, but 0.7 has made progress in terms of “fixing bugs”… xTorrent hasn’t).
From what I’ve seen of the Mac port of uTorrent… I’d say stick with xTorrent if you’re preferring it for its UI
