I don’t normally write about something so localized to my area, but I feel an Apple Store opening is an exception to my rule. This morning Apple finally opened the Lehigh Valley Apple Store in the new outdoor section of the Lehigh Valley Mall. The opening was a welcome addition, since King of Prussia (Philadelphia) was the previous closest Apple Store to the Lehigh Valley.
I left out around nine this morning to attend the grand opening, figuring I’d be one of the few crazies out there. That was a horrible judgement on my part. When I arrived the line was already starting to wrap around the mall. For anyone thinking of attending an Apple Store opening, arrive a lot earlier. The Apple Store employees I talked to said people were already lining up at six in the morning.

After a few short minutes the pre-launch ceremonies began. The Apple Store employees charged down the line, high fiveing everyone they passed. When they reached the end of the line they started chanting Apple, Apple, Apple, and stormed back toward the store. I thought I was a crazy Apple fanatic, but seeing how some people reacted to the Apple chants made me feel like a cult outsider.

The line for the Apple Store seemed to go on forever.
A few minutes later the opening countdown began. When we reached zero, a loud cheer roared through the mall. I’m sure anyone within a two mile radius heard the cheers of a new Apple Store. After the door opened, the line slowly started to move.

Letting only about 50 people in the store at a time, I managed to work my way to the front in about 45 minutes. I checked out the new iMacs and took several pictures of the store. After spending about ten minutes looking over the store, I left, picking up my grand opening t-shirt.

Overall, I’m glad I attended the grand opening ceremonies. While the opening seemed a little over the top, it was a lot of fun. If you ever have the opportunity to attend an Apple Store opening, do it. You meet some neat people in line and walk away with an awesome t-shirt.

Looked fun. I wish they’d open up more Apple stores in Canada; only having four is simply pathetic. I’ve yet to actually go to one.
Got my t-shirt as well!
The closest Apple store before this one was actually in King of Prussia, not Philly. About 1.5 hour drive from here.
Well, yeah, it’s King of Prussia, but I said Philadelphia since not everyone knows where King of Prussia is.
I tried to make an appt for one on one at the Lehigh Valley, PA store. Your website said my membership has expired.
IT HAS NOT!
I was there last week with Joel. I NEED another appt for This FridaY. 11:AM will work for me.
Last week Joel made some revisions…… Now I have MORE problems.
Uh jacqualyn, I’m sorry but I’m not the Lehigh Valley Apple Store. I’m just a single person that has no affiliations with the store. If you need to contact the Lehigh Valley Store I recommend you look up their number at apple.com/retail. Good luck!
